Background briefing: Leaders meeting on climate and just transition

As part of their joint mobilization strategy leading up to the COP30 UN Climate Conference, His Excellency Mr. Luiz In¨¢cio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, and His Excellency Mr. Ant¨®nio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, will convene a small but representative group of Heads of State and Government for a virtual closed-door meeting on 23 April, 8.00 to 10.00 EDT, to discuss strengthening global efforts to tackle the climate crisis and accelerate a just energy transition.

The day before, on 22 April, at 8:00 EDT, the United Nations will host an embargoed background briefing for international media, with COP30 President-Designate Andr¨¦ Corr¨ºa do Lago and Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Climate Action Selwin Hart to preview the upcoming meeting and provide relevant context.
