On 28 February 2025, Ms. Elinor Hammarskjöld, Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, participated in the Workshop on Artificial Intelligence and International Humanitarian Law held at the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations (Chair of the African Group for the month of February).
In her remarks, she underscored the vital role of international humanitarian law in addressing the challenges posed by AI in armed conflict. She encouraged the legal advisers, diplomats, and other experts participating to exchange perspectives on the evolving role of AI in modern warfare and its implications for the international law.
